Mercy's Angels
Mercy’s Angels began as a response to help the homeless population in Monroe County. Mercy’s Angels partners monthly with God Works! Family Soup Kitchen, which provides nightly free meals in Monroe County, and sets up tables of items which have been donated by Mercy Memorial Hospital System employees.
Not only does the group educate the population about appropriate medical care, Medicaid applications and physician referrals, Mercy Memorial Hospital System employees also donate to those in need. Many employees donate everything from simple toiletries to special seasonal items such as gifts during the holidays, school supplies and toys.
The manager of Care Management and Improvement developed Mercy’s Angels, which has been in existence since 2009.
Mercy’s Angels has not only been a blessing to the community, but also a way for Mercy Memorial Hospital employees to give back.
Some items which are accepted or are in the greatest need are:
- Infant diapers and wipes
- Baby wash, shampoo and lotion
- Soap
- Razors and shaving cream
- Deodorant
- Toothbrushes and toothpaste
- Shampoo
- Combs
- Plastic grocery bags
There are two ways to become a Mercy’s Angel. First, the Office of Philanthropy accepts cash donations to support the project. The funds are used to purchase toiletries, school supplies and other necessities that will be donated to the homeless and others in need throughout Monroe County. Gifts are tax deductible and will be accepted year round.
