
COMMUNICATION/EQUIPMENT FAILURE 1. Communications Failure
When an EMS unit is unable to communicate with Medical Control, or loses radio contact, attempts should be made to reach Medical Control through the following methods:
A. Both primary medical talkgroups.
B. Use telephone line (240-8477), if available. (58MMH3) Use telephone line (240-8488), if available. (58MMH4) Use VHF 155.340
C. Medical talkgroup 58MMH1.
D. Relay information to Medical Control through Agency Dispatch Center.
E. Contact appropriate Medical Control to nearest hospital.
F. When transport to the other hospital is completed, a call to MMH on an appropriate phone line (see above) shall be made.
G. Medical Control's copy of EMS report should be turned in as soon as possible.
NOTES:
During the time without radio contact, follow appropriate Treatment Protocols for medical care.
Document effort to reach Medical Control and how run was handled on run sheets. Forward documentation to Medical Control.
All reporting requirements of the Michigan Department of Community Health, EMS Section, must be followed.
2. Patient Care Equipment Failure
The failure of equipment used for the administration of prehospital care should be documented on run sheet and forwarded to Medical Control. All Federal and State guidelines must be followed.
